LAFHA – Living Away From Home Allowance
As a 457 visa holder you may be eligible for the LAFHA. Recent changes to Australia’s Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) rules now require that, starting October 2012, the LAFHA be taxed as part of employees’ regular income.
457 visa holders with a pre-existing LFHA agreement may be eligible for a transitional arrangement that will allow them to retain at least some of their LAFHA tax exemption into 2013/14.
If you are a foreign worker on a 457 visa and still under an LAFHA agreement with your employer, SETA Accounting can advise you as to whether you’re eligible for this transitional arrangement.
